The Jäger Hobby W84 Dr Frank is a highly detailed unpainted character figure inspired by the outrageous glamour, confidence and theatrical presence of Dr Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
This is a particularly personal sculpt for me. Rocky Horror influenced me enormously, and I have always retained a love for the film, its music, humour, theatricality and drag. Following the passing of the great Tim Curry, I wanted to create a figure that celebrated the extraordinary character and performance that made such a lasting impression on me.
I sculpted this one from the heart.
The Figure
W84 captures Dr Frank in that unmistakably confident pose: head held high, shoulders back and hands at the waist, presenting the character with all the attitude and theatrical swagger associated with the original performance.
The face has been carefully sculpted with a strong character expression, dramatic eyebrows and features designed to come alive when the distinctive stage makeup is applied. The mass of tightly curled hair frames the face, while the large pearl necklace provides another instantly recognisable element of the costume.
The corset-style outfit is packed with detail. Individual eyelets, crossed front lacing, seams and fastenings have all been represented to give painters plenty to work with.
Long fingerless gloves, briefs and the suspender arrangement continue the costume down the figure. Fine detailing extends into the patterned stocking tops and fishnet-style stockings, while the high platform shoes complete the distinctive silhouette.
The upper arm also features the characteristic BOSS heart tattoo, adding another small but important detail to the finished figure.
A Great Figure for Painting
Dr Frank offers an unusually varied painting project.
There is a wonderful mixture of flesh tones, theatrical facial makeup, pearls, corset material, lace, fishnet stockings, leather and high-gloss platform shoes. The costume also lends itself particularly well to satin, metallic, glitter and gloss effects.
The larger editions provide plenty of surface area for advanced painters to explore subtle skin tones, facial shading, eye makeup, fabric textures and individual costume details.
It can be painted as a faithful tribute to the familiar screen appearance or given a completely individual interpretation.

W84 Dr Frank is available in multiple scales, right up to 1/8 scale at approximately 220mm tall.
The smaller scales make an excellent addition to character and movie-themed collections, while the 1/8 scale / 220mm version turns the sculpt into a substantial centrepiece display model.
The larger scale is particularly effective for this subject, allowing the facial character, corset lacing, tattoo, pearls, stockings and costume textures to really stand out.

Some figures are created because they belong in a range. Others are created simply because the subject means something to you.
W84 is one of those figures.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show had a lasting influence on me, and I still have a love of both the film and drag. The confidence, humour, glamour and complete disregard for convention embodied by Dr Frank made the character unforgettable.
This figure is my small celebration of that.
A little outrageous, a little glamorous and completely confident.
