The figure depicts Captain van der Poel, portrayed by Anthony Quayle, stripped down for the intense desert heat and pushing the famous Austin K2/Y ambulance “Katy.” His outstretched arms, braced legs and forward-leaning body create a convincing impression of physical effort and are designed to position the figure directly against the vehicle.
