SM30 – Captain van der Poel Using Radio is an unpainted scale model figure inspired by the classic 1958 British wartime film Ice Cold in Alex.
The figure depicts Captain van der Poel, portrayed in the film by Anthony Quayle, kneeling beside a field radio and listening intently through the handset. The pose has been designed as a movie-orientated scene figure, capturing the character operating communications equipment during the crew's hazardous journey across the North African desert.
The sculpt includes the kneeling figure together with detailed radio equipment, handset, cabling, aerial and equipment bag, creating a complete miniature scene with plenty of fine detail for painting and weathering.
SM30 is part of our dedicated range of Ice Cold in Alex figures, designed around the principal characters and memorable situations from the film. The collection includes Captain Anson, RSM Tom Pugh, Captain van der Poel and Sister Diana Murdoch, with a selection of alternative poses that can be displayed individually or combined with the famous Austin K2/Y ambulance “Katy.”
The figure is supplied UNPAINTED, allowing the modeller to create their own interpretation of the character, uniform, radio equipment and dusty desert finish.
