A new collection of fishing and harbour scale model figure concepts is now in development at Jager Hobby, continuing my aim of creating figures that capture real people, natural movement and everyday working life.

When developing a new character, I try to go beyond simply creating someone standing in a pose. I look at how people actually move, how their clothing hangs and creases around the body, the expression on their face, their mood and the energy of the moment. I usually create a small story in my head about who they are, where they have come from and what they are doing. Those little stories help give each figure its own personality.

For this harbour scene, I've imagined several characters whose lives cross during another busy day on the quayside.

There's the old, tough fisherman, weathered by decades at sea, quietly gathering up his old fishing nets after another day's work. His heavy clothing, practical boots and relaxed stance are intended to suggest someone who has spent most of his life around boats and doesn't waste energy unnecessarily.

Nearby, a younger female harbour worker is rushing to unload the latest catch, carrying and stacking the heavy fish trays. Perhaps she's his granddaughter, continuing a family connection with the harbour but belonging to a very different generation. Her pose is deliberately active, with the weight of the tray affecting her arms, shoulders, clothing and stance.

Then there's the officious harbour master, pointing from the dockside while calling out a warning or instruction. He adds another layer of activity to the scene—a character who looks as though he has spotted something everyone else has missed and intends to make absolutely certain they know about it!

Even the stacked fish trays are being developed as part of the scene, allowing the figures to interact naturally with their surroundings rather than appearing as isolated characters.

Together, these concepts are intended to create a small snapshot of working harbour life—nets being gathered, fish being unloaded, trays being stacked and instructions being shouted across the quay.

These aren't intended to be glamorous characters. They're ordinary working people caught in believable moments, and that's exactly what I want to capture: life, movement, personality and story in miniature.

Project Status: New concept artwork dated 10 August 2026. These are early development sketches for potential future Jager Hobby scale model figures and accessories. Poses, clothing, equipment and other details may change as the designs progress towards sculpting.
