The nightmare continues with K6 – The Haunting: Sleep Time, the next incarnation in Richard the Artist’s macabre Haunting series.
This time the old wanderer hasn’t completely crossed over.
Bent beneath the weight of countless nights, he shuffles forward in battered Victorian clothes, his enormous top hat pulled low over a gaunt, exhausted face. One hand grips his towering wooden staff while the other points downward — as though he’s finally found what he has been searching for.
And hanging beside him is that lantern.
Suspended from a long chain and wooden gallows arm, its cage swings at his side, ready to throw its light into the darkest corner of the room.
Where K5 presents The Haunting as the skeletal nightmare he ultimately becomes, K6: Sleep Time captures an earlier, disturbingly human stage of the transformation. The flesh remains. The beard remains. The clothes still resemble those of a gentleman.
But something is already very wrong.
The sculpt gives painters masses to work with: deeply distressed coat tails, layered Victorian clothing, weathered timber, rope bindings, chain, lantern metalwork, leather shoes, hair, beard and a wonderfully sinister face buried beneath that oversized hat.
