Full Product Description

The Jäger Hobby CMB4 WWI Royal Navy Lewis Gunner is a highly detailed multi-scale model boat crew figure designed to represent an armed crewman aboard a First World War Coastal Motor Boat.

CMB4 portrays a Royal Navy sailor in a low kneeling action pose, with both hands positioned forward as though operating or preparing to operate a Lewis gun. The compact stance makes the figure particularly suitable for installation around the exposed fighting and deck positions of a Coastal Motor Boat.

The sailor wears a traditional Royal Navy-style cap, heavy knitted sweater, naval equipment and working trousers, creating a rugged appearance appropriate for service aboard a small, fast military craft.

Available in multiple scales, including a 1/16 scale option for Mountfleet Models Coastal Motor Boat projects, CMB4 is designed to complement CMB1, CMB2 and CMB3 as part of a complete Jäger Hobby WWI CMB crew.

Kneeling Lewis Gunner Pose

The defining feature of CMB4 is the purposeful kneeling gunner position.

The sailor has one knee down on the deck while the opposite leg is raised, providing the stable low stance required for operating equipment aboard a small vessel.

His upper body leans slightly forward and both arms are positioned ahead of him. The hands are arranged to give the impression of gripping and controlling a Lewis gun or associated mounting, allowing the figure to be integrated with the modeller's chosen weapon installation.

This low posture creates a strong sense of readiness and concentration while helping the figure fit naturally into the confined working environment of a Coastal Motor Boat.

WWI Royal Navy Coastal Motor Boat Gunner

CMB4 represents a working sailor prepared for the defensive and offensive duties required aboard an early fast attack craft.

The figure wears a distinctive Royal Navy sailor's cap with tally, combined with a heavy ribbed roll-neck sweater suitable for the exposed conditions encountered at sea.

Over the sweater is a detailed equipment arrangement featuring shoulder straps, webbing, belt fittings and pouches. These additional elements distinguish CMB4 as an armed operational crewman and create numerous areas of fine detail for painting.

Loose working trousers and sturdy lace-up boots complete the practical naval appearance.

The result is a characterful figure that looks at home aboard a WWI CMB rather than appearing like a generic naval miniature.

Designed for a Lewis Gun Position

CMB4 is intended primarily for use as a Lewis gunner aboard a Coastal Motor Boat.

The figure's hands and body position allow him to be arranged around a suitable model Lewis gun and mounting, creating the impression that the sailor is manning the weapon, tracking a target or preparing the gun for action.

Keeping the crewman separate from a permanently fixed weapon arrangement also provides greater flexibility when adapting him to different model boat layouts and scratch-built installations.

The kneeling pose can additionally be used in other appropriate deck-working scenes where the modeller requires a low, active crew position.

Multi Scale – Including 1/16 for Mountfleet Models

The Jäger Hobby CMB4 Lewis Gunner is available in multiple scales, making the design suitable for a variety of Coastal Motor Boat and historic naval modelling projects.

A 1/16 scale option is available for Mountfleet Models Coastal Motor Boat projects, allowing large-scale builders to add a dedicated gunner to their CMB crew.

The figure can be positioned around a suitable Lewis gun installation and combined with other crew members to create a busy operational scene.

As individual model layouts, weapon fittings and modifications can vary, builders should check the available deck space and the dimensions of their particular gun installation when planning the final position.

Build a Complete Jäger Hobby CMB Crew

CMB4 expands the Jäger Hobby Coastal Motor Boat range with a dedicated armed crew member.

The figures can be combined to create different working positions throughout the vessel:

  • CMB1 – Helmsman: seated at the wheel steering the Coastal Motor Boat.
  • CMB2 – Commanding Officer: standing and observing through binoculars.
  • CMB3 – Torpedo Crewman: kneeling and working around the torpedo or deck equipment.
  • CMB4 – Lewis Gunner: kneeling at the defensive gun position.

Together, these figures provide a combination of seated, standing and kneeling poses, helping create the impression of a genuinely crewed vessel rather than a collection of identical figures.

For a large 1/16 Mountfleet Models Coastal Motor Boat, the crew can be distributed around the helm, command, torpedo and gun positions to add human scale, activity and character throughout the model.

Detailed Naval Clothing and Equipment

CMB4 contains extensive sculpted surface detail.

The heavy sweater features a pronounced knitted texture with ribbed collar and cuffs. The sailor-style upper equipment and webbing contain numerous straps, fasteners and attachment points, while the belt carries additional equipment pouches.

Natural folds have been incorporated into the trousers around the hips, raised knee and lower legs to reinforce the compressed kneeling position.

The lace-up boots include detailed soles and tread, which remain visible from several viewing angles because of the figure's pose.

These features make CMB4 particularly suitable for large-scale figure painting.

Excellent Painting and Weathering Subject

The combination of naval clothing, knitted textures, equipment and exposed skin provides plenty of opportunities for advanced painting.

The ribbed sweater can be highlighted to emphasise the sculpted knit, while the webbing, belt and pouches provide contrasting materials and tones.

The sailor's cap and tally create a distinctive focal point around the head.

Subtle weathering can be applied to represent salt spray, seawater, oil, grease and general operational grime, particularly around the knees, boots and lower clothing where contact with the deck would naturally produce additional wear.

Whether positioned behind a Lewis gun aboard a 1/16 Mountfleet Models Coastal Motor Boat, combined with the other Jäger Hobby CMB crew figures or incorporated into another compatible historic naval project, CMB4 WWI Royal Navy Lewis Gunner adds an active fighting crew position to a model boat display.
